The table below converts the two published industry benchmarks into a monthly price for the three most common unit sizes. The UK column uses the SSA UK 2026 report's £27.40 per sq ft per year; the London column uses the same report's £42.39 per sq ft figure for the London region. Both are operator averages for 2025 with VAT added, so a real quote will land above or below depending on the store, the floor and how full the site is.

Below about 25 sq ft, per-square-foot pricing stops making sense: a locker still needs a padlock, insurance and two trips. For storage with collection the postcode matters less. Operators think in pounds per square foot per year, which is why a 100 sq ft unit is rarely twice the price of a 50 sq ft one: the rate per square foot falls as the unit grows. That helps when you genuinely need the space and hurts when you rent a unit that is half empty. Measure first (the calculator does this from a room-by-room list), then price the size you need rather than the size that is on offer.

• Insurance. Compulsory at most facilities and priced per £1,000 of cover per week, unless you prove your own policy covers goods in storage. Stackt includes basic cover up to £100 per item.
• Deposit. One to four weeks' rent, refundable when you leave. Stackt takes no deposit.
• Padlock and admin fee. A padlock is £10–£25 and some operators add a one-off admin or registration fee. Neither applies to storage with collection.
• Transport. A day's van hire in London is £60–£120 plus fuel and the congestion charge, and you need it twice. With collection storage this is replaced by a quoted collection and delivery fee.

Insurance is the extra people most often forget to price. • Skip the extras you do not need. Climate control and 24-hour access cost extra and most household goods need neither.
• Use your own insurance where allowed. Some home contents policies cover goods in storage; the operator's cover is often the pricier option.
